Over the last two decades, I’ve heard some interesting, ridiculous, strange and some sincere reasons for staying married and for getting divorced. I’ve met folks who stay married because of the kids. I’ve met folks who don’t get married because they would loose too much financially.
I’ve known single folks who really wanted to be married. They have had a strong desire for a companion which they had hoped they would find in marriage. I’ve also known single folks who were content and happy with their single lifestyle.
I’ve known married folks who really hated being married. They wish they didn’t have someone to go home to and someone to “report in” to each day. I’ve met parents who really hate being parents. They miss their days of “freedom”.
I’m thankful to love my husband. I’m thankful we are good to each other, care about each other and are supportive of each other. I’m grateful we appreciate each other, are kind to each other and truly want what is best for our marriage and life together. I’m thankful we’ve grown closer, grown together, changed and still embraced each other and we look forward to continuing to grow older together along with the changes it will bring.
I believe God has done something incredible and special in our marriage despite the fact that we do not have children in our home right now. I believe marriage CAN be a wonderful experience. I know it is worth the investment.
In a recent conversation, a young woman told me she had tried everything, even therapy and after only four months of marriage has filed for divorce. It’s a long story and there’s a lot to it. One party was not ready for marriage, one party has a really mixed up view of love, and one party has also watched too many soap operas, romantic movies and read too many romance novels. Both are selfish and do not have a balance of priorities. I have no idea if their marriage could ever make it if given a chance, but FOUR months?
Awhile back, I had an interesting talk with a friend regarding the idea of where we place our Christian boundaries. He works in the music industry and of course, has a vested interest in music and the thought that surrounds it. He asked a stimulating question: have we misplaced our “boundaries” when it comes to the entertainment “filters” that we use?
I’m pretty stoked that Jakob Dylan, the youngest of Bob Dylan’s sons; has his first solo project coming out on June 10th.
Jakob used to be the front man for Wallflowers who had some mild success in the 90’s, their biggest hit being “One Headlight”. Since the hits,Wallflowers has recorded a bunch of music for TV Movies and shows including CSI…which I also dig!
The project will be available at my favorite third place in the universe, Starbucks on June 10th.

Humble O Radio is a conversation about Christianity and Culture and the Sub-Culture of Christianity and how it all mixes together. Each week we’ll have interesting guests talking about topics as varied as the latest book, movie and music release to Theology. At some point we may talk about the theology of various books, music and movies, who knows?!?
One thing for sure, the show will be fun. Hopefully challenging and informative. No bashing those outside or inside the church just an opportunity to wonder out loud, ask about, discuss and challenge the mindset of both.

Prior going full time in Stand Up Comedy back in 02 he spent 17 years in radio in great cities around the country.
Marty is currently looking for a publisher for his two books “Individually Warped” and “The Twelve Step Program For Coffee Drinkers.” He lives in Columbus with his wife, Trina and NEDD THE WONDER PUPPY!
In his free time Marty likes to design digital artwork that pays tributes to historical figures.

Olivia Stallings: Olivia is a single mom of two boys ages 10 and 3 who currently works as a Senior Business Analyst for the government. She is a mentor to teen youth children in her community where she is able to help them with challenging situations because of her past troubled childhood. She is a writer and enjoys writing about spirituality. She is also in the process of publishing a book titled You Are Never Alone and tells about her life journey, a struggle to overcome the trials and tribulations of rape, child neglect, abortion and just surviving.
