Responding to Sin

May 28, 2008 By: Patrick Category: , ,

One of the things I am turning over in my head is the motivation behind sin. Talk to some people and they will bring out a well-worn harangue about calling sin a sin, and making sure folks know exactly what sins are being committed. These sorts of people are concerned that God will present them with a list of other people’s sins that weren’t properly admonished, thus losing pool privileges for a 32nd part of eternity. Or maybe such people like to be right, and want others to know that they are right, a fact that becomes even more potent when those others are wrong. It’s nice to be right when someone else is wrong, so nice that a person might feel compelled to seek out those situations if none are immediately presented. Or, more kindly, folks like to point out sins because they genuinely care for others.

Writer…Interrupted was birthed out of my own need to connect with other writing moms. Though I found many wonderful mommy blogs that talked about raising families, none met my unique need of balancing a writing career with raising a family. Soon after I launched the Writer…Interrupted group blog I realized there were other writers, fathers, employees, caregivers, and students who were also interrupted in their writing.

The Monday Hum: Got a Black Thumb?

September 19, 2007 By: Marty Category: , , , ,

Sustainable living encompasses a lot of complex issues. But is it so complex to actually improve your own individual way of living?

No. If it were, I’d be too lazy to do it.

I would venture to say that most of North America has some kind of sustainable infrastructure in place these days. Urbanites needn’t fear their lack of available dirt—in fact, you may want to have your soil tested for chemical residues and heavy metals before you try growing anything in it. You just don’t know.

Humble O Radio Episode 11 Forgiveness

August 14, 2007 By: Marty Category: , , , , , , , ,

My wife Trina and I have been married nearly 20 years and of course each one has been a cakewalk…like every other marriage or relationship, right? It doesn’t matter if you’re an Atheist, Christian, Muslim or Oompa Lompa, if you can’t figure out how to forgive, you are destined to have a very miserable and lonely life.

Without allowing your self to forgive little things will become huge issues and ultimately that only hurts you.

  • So forgive the guy who cuts you off in traffic.
  • Forgive the person who screwed you over in that business deal.
  • Forgive the spouse who takes you for granted…but what does that forgiveness look like?

Does it mean you let people walk all over you?

Not all…and we’ll talk about all of this tonight on Humble O Radio.
