I spent one decade submerged into a subculture which I didn’t even realize existed at the time. As I found myself escaping the subculture, I realized I was living life only in the “Christian subculture“. Now, after spending a decade on the outside of the “Christian subculture“, I don’t consider myself bitter about the “Christian subculture” but alarmed about it! (more…)

Some time ago I wrote a piece entitled Who Says What’s Christian Music? in which I briefly examined the sad fact that the actual content of music has little to nothing to do with what is actually classified as “Christian” and “secular” music. Artists like Sufjan Stevens openly express their faith with artistic excellence but won’t be purchased in your local Christian bookstore because they dont play the marketing game. Meanwhile, Phillips, Craig and Dean, who openly deny the orthodox view of the Trinity are in every “Christian” bookstore because they do play the marketing game. I imagine if you are a fan of Bill Mallonee’s work with VoL you probably already know about his free download offer on his site. If not, he is offering his “Summershine” project for FREE. Also, he has a special offer which if you buy one project you get a second one for free…pretty nice. He is doing this in an effort to introduce his music to a wider audience.

Here are the details at his site.

“Seeing Things”

I’m pretty stoked that Jakob Dylan, the youngest of Bob Dylan’s sons; has his first solo project coming out on June 10th.

Jakob used to be the front man for Wallflowers who had some mild success in the 90’s, their biggest hit being “One Headlight”. Since the hits,Wallflowers has recorded a bunch of music for TV Movies and shows including CSI…which I also dig!
The project will be available at my favorite third place in the universe, Starbucks on June 10th.
